City Escapes debut EP "Avalanches" starts off with some ambient sounds which lead into the firs single "When the Vultures Start to Circle". What sets City Escape apart from their piers is there constant use of electronics through their songs. Their first single showcases this very well. All the songs on this EP are well structured blending ambient rock, catchy choruses, electronics and some hardcore elements. I am personally a great fan of bands utilising vocal layers which amount to great melodies and catchy hooks. The vocals are shared between their lead singer as well as their drummer and second guitarist. For a four piece this band sounds huge, this is assisted by the production done by Electric Sun Studios.

I am very interested to see where City Escape go from here, having constantly toured all year off the back of this release the boys have the stage show to match the sound they have on this cd. They are young, talented and are very good songwriters. The stand outs on this EP are lead single "The Vultures start to Circle" "Now the Hard Part" and "The Deeper Water". The CD has been released via Taperjean Records and is available nationally through any good CD store. A must have for any fan of ambient post hardcore.

This is the debut cd from Adelaide based rockers Capulet. This EP is a really solid effort from the young lads which was released by powerhouse indie label Taperjean Records (Closure In Moscow, Fifty Six, The Mission in Motion). While listening to this EP Capulet's sound brings to mind such bands as Saosin, Emarosa and Ivoryline. The songs all hold their own on this cd and the highlights being the first single "Iron in the blood" and the cd closer "Machines". The guitars sound huge (as your expect from Electric Sun Studios) and the vocals are clean, crisp and catchy. Lead Singer Tim Bartel has a very impressive set of lungs which lets him lead the songs with big hooks and catchy choruses. The guitar lines are very impressive influenced by the playing style of bands like Dance Gavin Dance and Saosin. Everything on this is very well balanced, nothing is overpowered or overused. Everything is held in place by a strong rhythm section. Just like any band without a strong rhythm section everything will fall apart.

I have really enjoyed this CD and has been in my stereo since it came out. Great to see such great talent coming out of Australia and even more impressive is that its a solid effort without out having to delve into breakdowns and screams. All the songs are great on this EP my personal highlights are "We Were Here", "Iron In The Blood" and "Machines". Their EP is available nationally through Taperjean and you can get it at any good record store so make sure you go and pick it up.

My Current "IT" Girl. Very few women have an affect of me like she has. the other being Blake Lively. In the last couple of weeks I have watched Bride Wars, Havoc and The Devil Wears Prada because she is in these movies.

Contemplating taking up acting and moving to the USA in order to have a try and possibly meeting her and well of course sweeping her off her feet. Anybody wanna help me out?

Go watch HAVOC, its rad, and well Anne is super hot.

Dear Edward Cullen

So i finally decided to sit down and watch Twilight after numerous people (mainly women) told me to.

Granted the movie wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I do understand why people swoon for Edward. I do however think it was a tad sappy at times. On a whole the movies itself wasn't bad. I didn't mind it and would probably watch it again if I didnt have anything else better to do.

My only thing with the movie however was the constant staring and awkward faces Mr Cullen tends to pull during the whole thing. It almost looks as if he is just uncomfortable during the entire movie. But i guess that is what girls are looking for:

- awkward
- uncomfortable
- constantly staring
- skinny
- pale
- boy

so other than that the movie was enjoyable but yeah.

till next time.

I Just Don't Know

I had the day off today which allowed me to do a little bit of thinking.

I often wonder how to compose a really good song. I have always been a fan of great catchy music and intricate and interesting music. I have always been a huge fan of Anberlin, the music they play is insanely catchy well thought out pop rock. There are heavy parts, rock parts, and pop parts. They are just all round a great band.

Another band i think extremely high of is Melbourne band Closure In Moscow. Drawing more interesting influences such as The Mars Volta and Circa Survive, they are the type of band that is amazingly catchy (in my opinion) and extremely interesting.

I'm trying to find a balance between these two bands in terms of writing my own music. Not to say I'm trying to be one or the other but I would like it to be as interesting and catchy as both of those bands.

I guess we will see what happens. My band has been working hard on writing new tracks and hopefully we can master up something between those bands. But I just don't really know. We will see when we can put some new tracks.
